“It was regrettable. It was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely unintentional, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just put up the wrong finger,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an NFL owner has been fined for misconduct. Previous examples involve:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
