It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The top summits have already been conquered.

This is the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the peak baggers, are the only things left for a squad that has won it all.

It needed as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to maintain a record if not provided the possibility.

In the end, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Many contend the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in the nets, it has been a disappointing period because it appeared my form was missing at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the right-hander was on her way.

"The possibility to take the field and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun that way, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was out Australia needed 66 more at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the assurance to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we know we can do it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this success coming after win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the first time at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her last major obstacle.
